Make an impact - be remembered
My Global Sales Manager and myself had a meeting at Costco HQ in Seattle a few years ago. It was a first meeting to introduce ourselves to the main category buyer for our products. Costco are the third largest retailer in the world. This was a big deal. We were shown into a board room to prepare for the meeting. It was a stunning room with an outlook from a full glass window to a central grass landscaped area that the whole company looked upon.
We looked out in awe of the company and the number of buildings and offices we could see; we prepared our presentation and then we sat quietly for a while. Then we got bored waiting. My colleague hopped up onto the board table and struck a pose for me to start drawing him. I was deep in artistic contemplation when the Senior Category Manager followed by her clipboard wielding entourage walked into the room. I put my finger to my lips to ask her to wait whilst I finished the drawing with a flourish. I then turned my pad around to show her my masterpiece whilst my colleague slid off the table and into a chair.
She burst into hysterical laughter. Her colleagues followed suit after the initial look of shock at the scene they had walked into.
“I’ve seen some great opening introductions, but that is the best by far. You guys are crazy”
Whenever we saw her at an exhibition or event, she remembered us. We did great business with Costco around the world. Make an impact. Never be forgotten.
