Get Ready for Work

Target audience: 16–18-year-old secondary school pupils, 16–19-year-old adult further education students

Feedback from employers is emphatic: new employees are arriving in the workplace and onto apprenticeship programs without the basic skills needed and expected by employers. This is not the specific fault of any school or parent. The modern workplace is a fast paced, changing environment and employers are reporting a disconnect between their expectations, and the skills a new young employee arrives with.

Developed with academic professionals, this course is an interactive, dynamic half-day program. Students are challenged to think about the skills they have as well as those they need to attain before starting work. They will understand the demands that will be made upon them and learn the reality of the employer/employee contract. This course not only supports young people into dynamic and fulfilling careers but helps them form the skills and resilience to stay there and make a positive impact.

Entering the workplace is a huge step for any young person and this course is designed to give them a head start when taking that first step.

About Me

I'm a CEO with over thirty years of international business experience. As the Chairman of VegTrug Group, a leading wholesale company that provides innovative and sustainable gardening solutions, I oversaw the strategic direction, operations, and growth of the business across multiple markets and regions. With more than 14 years of experience just in this role, I successfully established and expanded the VegTrug brand in Europe, North America, and Asia, all while generating significant revenue and customer loyalty.

I founded VegTrug with a partner, and sold it shortly after to a Tokyo-listed group back in 2012. I then successfully operated and grew VegTrug as CEO from then until as recently as 2023, when I stepped back from daily operations and became Chairman.

My core competencies include negotiation, business planning, operational management, and customer relationship management. I am passionate about creating and delivering high-quality products and services that meet the needs and expectations of our diverse and global clientele.

I value collaboration and partnership with other industry stakeholders, such as Gardenex, the UK's trade association for garden and leisure exporters, where I served as the Chairman of the Board and Director General. In this role, my mission was to promote and support the growth and development of the wholesale industry, both locally and internationally.

I am proud to have been a Board member and Chairman of the Essex Chambers of Commerce since early 2024 helping businesses in the region. I have also been Director General of a national trade association in the garden, pet and agri-tech sectors helping British businesses to export and thrive.

Before VegTrug, I ran the Middle Eastern division of CBT Systems, which delivered online computer-based training for large conglomerates. I started and later sold this business under a NASDAQ merger in 1997.

I also ran a successful farm business in Brittany, France for many years producing haylage for horses.

In the early 2000s I hosted a show on UK Shopping TV, selling very unusual and unique garden furniture, under the name Perasian Products.

I hold a full PPL (H) helicopter license, although I do not fly these days, as well as a commercial drone pilot license. I'm also a keen amateur photographer and clay pigeon shooter.
